Is a three-hour educational program presented as a satellite symposium at the American Diabetes Association’s 82nd Scientific Sessions, in collaboration with Pennington Biomedical Research Center, an institute at the forefront of medical discoveries related to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
The program will be presented by world-renowned experts. Speakers will address the complex causes of obesity and strategies to implement evidence-based interventions to treat obesity to improve outcomes of people with type 2 diabetes.
The goals of the symposium are to review and critically assess obesity management strategies including lifestyle management, weight loss and medication strategies to address documented treatment and implementation gaps in obesity and type 2 diabetes, including poor understanding of the complex pathophysiology of weight gain and regain; underuse of evidence-based interventions (intensive lifestyle interventions, medical therapy, surgical therapy); the comparative effects of obesity treatments on body weight, glycemic control, and other comorbidities and complications (cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, cancer); and addressing known health disparities in obesity prevalence and access to treatments.
